Raktamokshana is a technical word comprising a two i.e rakta (blood), & Mokshana (to expel) which means the process in which the vitiated blood is expelled out of the body. There are various method to conduct raktamokshana are Siraveda,Prachana,Jalaukavacharana,Sringaavascharana,Alabuavacharana. The treatment is classified into two types viz, santarpana & apatarpana.Apatarpana again divided into sodhana & shaman. The samana chikitsa only subside or relieved the symptoms of diseases,does not eliminate the causative factors. In sodhana chikitsa the vitiated doshas are eliminated from the body by a certain procedure .They are 1.Vamana(Emesis),Virechana(Purgation),3.Nasya (Nasal medication),4.Niruha Vasti(Decoction enema),Anuvasana vasti(Oil enema) & Raktha moksha (Blood letting) ,Charak & vagbhatta praise the role raktamoksha in the treatment of diseases caused by vitiation of rakta.According to them vasti comprises half of treatment of kaya chikitsa,like wise raktamoksha comprises half of the treatment of raktajarogas.Susruta has given much importance to blood .He gives equal importance to rakta along with three doshas.

JALUAKAVACHARANA

Jaluka is the one among the anusastra.It is unique method for raktamokshana in the history of surgical treatment.The use of Jaluka in Ayurvedic medical practice was very much important from vedic periods & still existing.
